Council to hear update on progress for move of Civic Operations to former MacCarthy dealership yard

What's ahead for the City's plans for the old MacCarthy Motors locations
is on the Agenda for tonight's council session

What's next towards the city's operation departments move to a new location at the old MacCarthy car dealership lot will make for one of a number of reports to Council tonight, with the City's Director of Operations to update Council members on the where the city is for the shift to the corner of Chamberlain and Portage Avenue.

In his report, Director Richard Pucci will provide a look at the history of the current yard on Wantage Road and how it has outlived its use with the location hosting a number of safety hazards on the site.

The report follows up on how the City first came to consider the MacCarthy Motors site and then enter into a leasing arrangement with the owners in Terrace, with the newest  update to include a recommendation that the City exercise the option to purchase the property.

Of note from the two page report for Council tonight, is the budget aspects towards the proposal which includes an awareness of a potential rise in expenses for the shift.

"The Operations Department has been working closely with the Finance Department and early projects put completion of this work in late 2023 and at approximately $5M inclusive of property purchase. However, the cost could see some escalation during these uncertain times."
