The statement posted to the City of Prince Rupert website today, notes of the discovery of a deleterious substance that had been dumped into the liquid waste site by a third party.
The City explains that they immediately notified all appropriate authorities and mitigated the risk to the local environment and wildlife with all the means available to them, though seemingly not in time or of much use for the volume of eagles which were killed as a result of the incident.

The city statement which you can review here, does not specify the date of the incident and what amount of time had gone by before they made mention of it.
The city's note also offers no further explanation as to how the third party dumped the substance into the waste site without checking to see if that was allowed.
In a reply to comments through their social media post related to the clean up efforts, the City notes that: environmental professionals were immediately brought to site to identify proper cleaning measures as well as to provide guidance around PPE use
The city advises that the identification of the substance is still under investigation and that they continue with the investigation with relevant authorities.
They also relay to the public that they are: reworking a past information campaign to raise awareness about the disposal of deleterious substances.

Really hope they either know, or find out who did this and hold them responsible. They need to be fined as much as possible so something like this hopefully doesn't happen again.
