Official Nomination period opens today for 2018 Municipal Elections

When the side door of Prince Rupert City Hall (the front doors remain locked as they have since last November) swings open at 9:30 AM today, a nine day window for those looking to seek office at the City Council or School District level will get underway.

From September 4th until 14th, those who qualify to hold civic office can submit their papers to have their names included on the ballot for the October 20th Municipal and School District elections.

Nomination information has been available on the City of Prince Rupert website since August 1st, outlining the process and requirements for office prior to the opening of the nomination period today.

Among the notes outlined from the information package: Notes on the list of Registered Electors, Notes on the objection to registration of an elector, Advance Elector Registration information and the Qualifications for office.

As well, a number of videos are available for viewing from the Province which outline the duties and expectations for those that seek office.

Similar opportunities for office are available with the District of Port Edward and the North Coast Regional District.
