Local educator benefits from sponsorship opportunity from Ridley Terminals

Penny Hassell, an educator with School District 52 took advantage of a funding opportunity from Ridley Terminals to travel to Vermont this past summer, taking two courses at the Bread Loaf School.

Ms. Hassell reviewed her summer program for the School District 52 Board meeting of November 10th outlining the focus of her stay in Vermont which provided graduate level studies.

In her case it was a learning opportunity to review how to use drama in other subject areas, which is a valuable resource in engaging students. As well, Ms. Hassell participated in a course that provided more background on the use of imagination in the education setting.

Board Chair Tina Last observed that with Ms. Hassell now working in a district position this year, she will be able share her lessons of the summer with all of the Districts elementary teachers.

You can review some of the background on the update from this School District overview of the November 10th School District meeting.

A sample of what kind of programs and learning opportunities are available through the Bread Loaf Program can be found from this YouTube video which outlines the concepts in place at the Vermont School.
