There were some 700 kilometres between Prince Rupert and Prince George for nurses Mikaela Pond and Jennifer Miller, and along the way one half of the tandem had to surrender to the rigours of the ride along Highway 16.

But on a sun filled Friday ( a significant change from some of the weather along the way), Mikaela Pond rode into Northern British Columbia's largest city, completing the journey for both and raising awareness and funds for the good work that Hope Air does across the province.

Ms Pond who is originally from Prince Rupert, but now is a nurse in Fort St. John and her travelling partner Ms. Miller, who works in Burns Lake, came up with the idea of the fundraising ride and launched their journey in late August.

With Mikaela's dad Herb and Ms. Miller's husband Kevin, were among those who at times were along the ride as the support team, as the pair took on the challenges of Highway 16.

They set out on August 28th, not only to take on the long distances of the Yellowhead, but to raise funds for the provincial assistance program that helps families connect with medical assistance far from their homes.

Health concerns sent Ms. Miller to the sidelines and the hospital for a short period at just past the midway point of the travels, with Ms. Pond vowing to continue on to Prince George through some fairly wet and windy weather, her spirits and efforts spurred on by receptions from communities along the way.

At last count, the pair had reached the 84 percent mark for their fundraising efforts, having received over 5,000 dollars towards their goal of 6,000 dollars.

Those looking to help push the pair towards that amount and beyond can offer up a contribution through their online fundraiser site here.

As well, they kept a travel journal of their trek which you  can check out here.

Friday brought the final stretch of road for Mikaela Pond as she
made the final push into Prince George in support for Hope Air.
