Recreation Department set to offer CORE training this month

With hunting season almost upon us once again, the City of Prince Rupert is preparing to offer the popular CORE hunters program through the Civic Centre.

The Recreation Department is offering two courses into the fall, the first starts tomorrow, September 8th and runs until September 15th, with three hours of instruction from 7 to 10 PM through to Friday, while the Saturday Sunday sessions including the Final Exam take place from 9 AM to 2 PM.

The Second opportunity to take the program is from October 26th to November 2nd, with the same times for instruction in effect.

The cost for either course is 160 dollars.

Participants with their P. A. L. participate in 12 course hours and then take the final exam.

The Core program features a practical firearms handling test for those that don't have their PAL certification as well as written exams on such things as First Aid and Survival, Firearm Safety and Animal and Bird Identification.

Successful completion of the course is required for residents of British Columbia who are 18 years and older and who wish to obtain a BC Resident hunter number card and first resident hunting license.

You can find out more about the Core Program from the City's Recreation Guide online (see page 20), for questions related to the two courses being offered this year, contact the City of Prince Rupert recreation department at 250-624-6707
