One in custody following assault on downtown business owner

A twenty eight year old female is in custody, after Prince Rupert RCMP responded to a call related to an assault on a business owner in the 700 block of Second Avenue West at 6:35 on Thursday evening.

When members of the detachment arrived in response to the alarm from the business, they found the owner in distress after having been sprayed by bear spray.

The lone suspect, who was wearing a mask had entered the store and immediately began to spray the owner with the bear spray before fleeing on foot and entering a vehicle in the alley way between 2nd Avenue West and Third Avenue West.

Sharp eyed citizens took note of the licence plate number of the vehicle and with that information the RCMP eventually located the vehicle in the 1000 block of 6th Avenue East and subsequently effected an arrest on the female.
