Wind Warning in effect for Prince Rupert, North Coast and Haida Gwaii

An intense Pacific front is approaching the North Coast and with it looming on our horizon, Environment Canada has issued a WIND WARNING for Prince Rupert and the North Coast.

Strong southeast winds of 90 km/h with gusts to 110 will develop over the Central Coast, Haida Gwaii and North Coast later this evening. The winds will ease near the noon hour on Friday as the system works its way North.

Rain totals for the Prince Rupert area will see 50 to 70 mm of precipitation arriving in the overnight period and into Friday.

Haida Gwaii is also the subject of a WIND WARNING for the evening and overnight periods.

You can find updates on Warnings from Environment Canada here.

As we noted on the blog last night, the windy conditions and storm projections delivered a Wind Warning to Haida Gwaii through much of the day Wednesday and resulted in some revisions to the BC Ferry schedule.

With the Thursday sailing of today cancelled, the next scheduled departure is on Sunday at 10 PM out of Prince Rupert. An additional sailing has been added for Monday to help address the missed sailing.
