This years Seafest Celebrations get an additional attraction this year, as the Prince Rupert/Port Edward Gitmaxmak'ay Nisga'a Dancers host the 5th Annual Salmon Festival, an all day event at Prince Rupert's Jim Ciccone Civic Centre.
The Celebration heralds the arrival of the salmon and offers up the opportunity for the community to join in though singing, dancing and drumming in a celebration of Nisga'a culture on the North Coast.
The Doors open to the Civic Centre at 10 AM with a full schedule of activities through the day leading up to the Grand Finale at 8:15 when the Drum Drill will echo through the Civic Centre complex.
The Dance and Drum groups come from across the Northwest and also reflect some of the cultural mosaic that makes up Prince Rupert, with each hour from 11 AM to 8 PM featuring a different group in the spotlight.
Admission to the event is Free, with Vendors on Location, as well there will be a Salmon BBQ as one of the centre pieces to the day's events.
Those in attendance will also have a chance to grab a raffle ticket for a Queen/King size quilt or Extra large TV cushion. Or to buy some 50/50 tickets or win some door prizes.
Some of the money collected from the event will be put towards the travel expenses that are incurred as organizers put on the event.
