An opportunity for youth in Prince Rupert to experience the sport of lacrosse is coming up this summer, as the Prince Rupert Recreation Department hosts a month long camp at the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre.
The sport has a fast pace which incorporates running, hand and eye coordination and physical contact at the upper levels continues to grow across Canada.
Much like the nation itself, the sport is currently celebrating it's 150th anniversary and has been called Canada's official national sport, though the nation's love of hockey at times overshadows the game which is similar in concept, without the ice.
You can learn more here about the history of the sport and the national association that governs it.
The Prince Rupert camp is divided into three segments with specific programs designed youth ages 5 to 8, 9 to 12 and 13 to 15 years old.
Each camp runs on Sundays from July 9 to 30th, cost of the camp is 40 dollars.
Camps will take place at the following times at the Civic Centre complex.
Ages 5-8 10-11 AM
Ages 9-12 11:15 AM to 12:15 PM
Ages 13 to 15 1 to 2 PM
Participants are required to provide their own helmet with face mask, it's also recommended that they bring a jock/jill strap, knee pads and a mouth guard.
You can register for the lacrosse sessions through the Recreation Department's online system here
