Only one wildfire noted for Northwest BC, as all eyes look to the Interior

The Northwest corner of the BC Wildfire Map
is the only location where the Forest Fire threat is not
swathed in red and orange today

As has been reported over the last 48 hours the tinder dry conditions across much of British Columbia have wildfire officials on alert in many areas of the province, the tragic circumstances seen in Lytton and a situation overnight in Kamloops that could very well have gone very bad as well making for the headlines of the day as conditions remain dangerous for many.

In the Northwest, there is only one fire of note reported by the BC Wildfire Service, that one is the Pinkut Creek Fire, northeast of Burns Lake, which currently is listed as one  that is being held.

What could have been a dangerous situation was found in the Northwest overnight, after a fire at St. Paul's Church in Gitwangak posed a potential threat the community.

The larger threat to the community resolved thanks to the swift work of the volunteer firefighters of that community.

The Gitwnagak incident was the second one in less than a week, a previous fire had been reported at the same Church on June 27th.

The conditions across much of the region remain reasons for many to remain alert, with all fires prohibited across all of British Columbia as we head into this weekend.

The BC Wildfire Service website features an interactive map which allows for up to date tracking of fire situations, with the data provided in the last 48 four hours showing just how fast the threats have been building.

You can access the map here, as well as more detailed information on Wildfire themes from this page from the Wildfire Service website.
