Wantage Road that the ATV Incident took place on Friday evening

In their statement from today, the Prince Rupert detachment noted that the lack of use of safety equipment was key to the serious nature of the incident.

"Alcohol or drugs are not suspected to be involved but it was determined that the driver of the ATV was not wearing a safety helmet. The ATV has been seized from the scene and will be undergoing mechanical inspection." -- Constable Gabriel Gravel, Media Relations Officer Prince Rupert RCMP.

From the incident, the Prince Rupert RCMP would like to remind off-road vehicle users of the importance of wearing appropriate protection equipment, including the mandatory safety helmet. Not doing so can result in a $138 fine or much worst, serious injuries.
