There's more aviation news arriving in the Northwest this week, with the latest dispatch from the world of air travel coming from WestJet, the Calgary based airline which serves the Northwest through the Terrace/Kitimat airport announcing the return of their Calgary-Terrace direct flight as of December 1st.
The schedule will operate 4 times a week with the return of the start of December and marks the first significant expansion for the airline in the region since the early days of COVID brought air travel to a near standstill in Canada.
"We are thrilled to provide increased capacity to support Terrace and Western B.C.'s critical projects and expanding industries,. The West is our home and as we turn to an exciting new chapter of growth, we are committed to providing vital domestic connections that support the economic diversification and success of Western Canada." -- John Weatherill, Chief Commercial Officer.
Outgoing Mayor Carol Leclerc welcomed the news of an addition to the airport listings and the opportunity to reinforce Terrace's status as key service centre for the region.
"Welcoming back WestJet's direct service to Calgary is eagerly welcomed by all of Terrace. Following the pandemic, the Terrace-Kitimat Airport numbers have been growing and air traffic is busy. Terrace is a key service centre for Northwest B.C. and it's integral for our residents, businesses and industry to have access to critical services such as air travel."
WestJet passengers in the region will also now benefit
from an increased alliance between the airline and Pacific Coastal Airlines, which serves a number of communities in the province, that through their gateway of the South Vancouver Airport facility in Richmond.
The expanding flight options out of the Northwest Regional Airport serve to reward the Terrace Airport Authority for their tenacity expanding on the flight options from the recently expanded facility and will continue to increase the volume of passengers making the trip to YXT for their travel arrangements.
