Prince Rupert Port Authority job posting puts focus on Municipal relations, partnerships with Organizations across the Prince Rupert Gateway

The PRPA offices in the Atlin Terminal in Prince Rupert

With relationships between the Prince Rupert Port Authority and the City of Prince Rupert of some interest these days over the Port Tax Cap issues of the last month, an interesting job posting has been placed on the PRPA Career Opportunities page.

The Focus of the position towards municipal themes isn't limited to Prince Rupert however, the post one that has the entire Prince Rupert Gateway as key to its scope from Prince Rupert along the travel corridor to Edmonton.

The Position Summary providing a glimpse as to the importance the PRPA appears to be putting towards relationships along the Gateway corridor; as well as what the successful applicant will be tasked to explore as part of the position.

The post has four major accountabilities that will make for the bulk of the engagement process for the candidate, and highlights the role of keeping up on how port related issues are being viewed by governments, Chambers of Commerce and other organizations in the Gateway communities.

The four include

Public Affairs and Event Management

Research, Analysis and Submissions

Municipal Government Relations

Economic Partnerships

Of the four, the Municipal Government Relations element outlines how the Port views the post and their goals for engagement.

The position is based in Prince Rupert with the workday a Monday to Friday  expectation, though there is also evening and weekend work anticipated.

The full job description is available here.

The Deadline for applications is Tuesday's October 18th

Had the position already been filled, the last six weeks would have offered the candidate a fairly heavy workload of keeping track of issues of note from both civic officials and Scrap the Tax petition organizers.

Something which would have reinforced the key focus of keeping Port officials up to date on municipal themes, in this case on the scope of that initiative and the flow of information that was distributed as part of it.

Depending on how the Municipal Election turns out and how the new council to come chooses to mark its engagement on issues, that could become an ongoing mission; or one which ebbs and flows depending on the situations that come up in the months and years ahead.
