Highway 16 Now Reopened West of Exchamsiks after closure owing to large rocks on highway

A debris field of large and small rocks from a mountainside
along Highway 16 had the route closed until Sunday Noon

Update: Road has been cleared and is now fully open

Travel along highway 16 between Terrace and Prince Rupert has cone to a standstill falling an incident involving rocks on the highway west of Terrace near the Exchamsiks Provincial Park area.

Videos posted to Social Media sties such the Prince Rupert Community Bulletin Board  and Highway 16 Road Conditions provide a first hand look at the rocks, some of which have results in large craters and a fair bit of rock debris along the highway in some spots.


The incident appears to have taken place in the mid afternoon period, Drive BC has advised that the Road remains closed with the next update to come at 5:30 PM
