Special Weather Statement issued for North Coast

A significant weather system is working its way towards
the North Coast with the potential of 100 mm of rain to arrive
by Thursday morning

We're about to get our first sampling of the Rainy Fall Forecasts, with Environment Canada issuing the first Special Weather Statement of the Fall on Monday.

The National Weather Agency alerting residents of the North Coast Coastal  and Inland Regions of some extensive rainfall to come by midweek.

A vigorous frontal system will approach the BC North Coast on Wednesday morning and cross the region early Thursday morning. Heavy rain and strong winds will accompany this system. 24 hour rainfall amounts of 40 to 100 mm are possible over these regions, with lesser amounts further inland.

Southerly winds of 70 km/h gusting to 100 are expected over the exposed coastal areas of the north and central coasts. The strong winds will weaken and the heavy rain will taper off to a few showers Thursday morning as the front moves out of the area.

The Forecast areas include Prince Rupert, Terrace, Kitimat and Stewart

There will be no let up on the precipitation as we head into Tuesday, with the forecast calling for Rain through to Sunday
