Candidates find pop up Truth and Reconciliation Questions in their Social media feeds as 2022 Municipal campaign winds down


As the final day for campaigning arrives, some of the Prince Rupert Mayoralty and City Council candidates are finding some last minute questions appearing on their Social media feeds.

Farley Stewart, who has had a long career with Indigenous organizations in the community, as well as having been a past City Council candidate, has put an issue up for discussion for the candidates.

Mr. Stewart having posed four questions on themes of Truth and Reconciliation.

Delivering them to a number of Social media feeds in recent days, his focus points for the candidates has been  put on four elements related to Reconciliation issues.


So far the pop quiz for candidates has been added to the conversation threads for the following candidates.

On the Mayoralty side of the vote, the question has been placed on the Social media pages for

Jason Hoang
Herb Pond
Chrystopher Thompson

While over n the Council race the questions have been posed to:

Barry Cunningham 
Teri Forster

Sheila Gordon Payne
Gurvinder Randhawa
Reid Skelton Morven

The questionnaire has not as of yet been noted on the Social media feeds for Council candidates  Nick Adey,  Wade Niesh or Andy Chugh.  

It has also not been delivered to the social media feed that is being used by Mayoralty candidate Steve Fitzpatrick

To this point, the answers (see links above) to Mr. Stewart's questions have come from Ms. ForsterMr. Thompson, Mr. Skelton-Morven and Mr. Randhawa

  1. The fact that council will only now start doing land acknowledgements at the beginning of meetings, shows how much more needs to be done.
