It's a big weekend for local New Democrats with Federal party leader Jagmeet Singh having arrived on the North Coast for two days of touching base with local officials and party members.

The NDP leader was welcomed to the region on Thursday by Skeena-Bulklay Valley MP Taylor Bachrach who will be his host and tour guide over the course of the next three days as they explore Prince Rupert and then Haida Gwaii.

The NDP leader's tour of the North Coast region began on Thursday evening with a meeting with officials from Lax Kw'alaams, the event was closed to media coverage.

Today, Mr. Signh and Mr. Bachrach have a fairly full day of meetings with local officials, starting with a stop at Prince Rupert City Hall and a chance to hear from the Mayor or Mayor's perhaps, along with members of City Council.

The afternoon takes the NDP leader and Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP to the Port and a tour of port facilities and discussions with port officials.

The evening will see the two NDP politicians meeting with local labour officials on the North Coast.

All of those events are also closed to the media.

For those not looking to track the NDP duo down paparazzi style, there is a public event scheduled for 7 PM tonight.

With the NDP hosting a Fall Fundraising event, open to the public at the Highliner Plaza Hotel.

Saturday both Mr. Signh and Bacharach head across Hecate Strait for a stopover in Dating Giids on Haida Gwaii.
