4.2 magnitude quake rumbles along Hecate Strait Thursday evening

The Epicentre of a 4.2 temblor Thursday was 72
kilometres east of Sandpit on Haida Gwaii


The Great BC ShakeOut provided for a real time event late Thursday evening, with a 4.2 magnitude temblor recorded just off the east coast of Haida Gwaii in the Northern Hecate Strait.

The seismic event struck at 10:46 Pacific time with the epicentre listed as 99 kilometres West-Southwest of Prince Rupert, 72 kilometres East of Sandspit. 

The depth of the event was 10 kilometres.

No Tsunami Warning or Advisory was issued as a result of the seismic shift.

It's the second similar sized seismic event this month for the North Coast, the Prince Rupert region felt the slight impact of a quake over the Thanksgiving Weekend.

Emergency Info BC has not as of yet, offered up an information on the Thursday event.
