Prince Rupert Rampage keep to winning ways, with shut out road victory in Kitimat

It's still quite early in the CIHL season, but so far two games into the 2022 Schedule the wins for the Prince Rupert side outpace the losses by a total of 2-0.

The Prince Rupert Rampage had their first road game of the season this weekend, a Saturday trek to Kitimat and a matchup with the Ice Demons and for the Rhinos, the road back to Rupert was a positive one.

That as the Rampage claimed a 5-0 victory as they left Tamitik after a rather physical three periods of play.

The scoring opened up midway through the first period with Hunter Johnson picking up the early marker, assisted by Reid Linday, the goal holding up as the only marker of the period.

The middle frame saw two more Rampage goals with Reid Lindasy, converting a Drew Fudger assist for goal number two at 6:28.

The Rhinos would score again before the period ended with Tyler Ostrom picking up an unassisted goal at 18:24.

The Rampage made use of a power play opportunity within the first two minutes of the third period, with Judd Repole picking an unassisted goal at 1:59.

The Final Prince Rupert goal of the night came at 15:15 when Hunter Atchison scored, assisted by Hunter Johnson.

Kieran Sharpe picked up the win in the nets for the Rampage, with a fairly light night of work facing but 9 shots over the three periods, turning all nine aside.

The frustration for the Ice Demons when it came to their sluggish offensive play, was delivered by way on a string of penalties where the home side was assessed 30 minutes of penalty time on 9 infractions including misconducts and a Game Misconduct later in the third for Josh Slanina for head contact.

The Rampage were assessed 19 minutes of penalty time on 4 infractions.

The win puts the Rampage in top spot in the west and atop the overall CIHL tables after two weeks of play.

Prince Rupert currently is tied with the Terrace River Kings, but with the Rhinos hosting a better GF/GA margin  than their Skeena Valley rivals over the first two games of the year.

October is heavy on road trips for the Rampage, who have two back to back next weekend as they travel to Vanderhoof for a Saturday game with the North Stars.

The team then makes their way back to the North Coast with a Sunday noon hour stop over in Smithers where they'll take on the Steelheads.
