| The topic of the use of shipping containers in the city will be up for review of the public at a future Public Hearing |
The thorny issue for City Council on how to approach the use of shipping containers in the community is one step closer towards some for of closure, with Council receiving a report from the Planning department with a framework towards implementation to policy to take to a Public Hearing.
The topic has been one of much discussion in recent years for Council, that as more and more of the large shipping containers began to pop up in residential, light industrial and commercial areas of the community.
Monday night's recommendations put the focus on what is known as Framework One which details how the city would approach the issue, should the proposal be approved at a future Council Session following a public hearing.

Council members did not have much to say about the latest attempt to put the shipping container issue to rest, with only Councillor Nick Adey making an observation on Monday towards the proposal.
"Just to note that when I went through the package, I noticed in one of the earlier bylaws that there was a statement about containers and I thought, well we're going to get into the weeds on containers again.
So I want to say that I appreciate the fact that within this one there is a fairly comprehensive set of options in terms of how we manage containers, because I know it's a point of public interest.
Having said that, I think that you know, this is probably not the time to go beyond supporting the motion to have it go to the Public Hearing, because I'm interested in what the public has to say" -- City Councillor Nick Adey

Council did not set a date for the Public Hearing as part of their work on the file on Monday.
It is not the first Public Hearing for the topic for Council, which hosted one in June of this year that consultation resulted in a pause in their deliberations to the issue.
