BC Government outlines scope of Home Owner Grant program for 2023

As residents of the North Coast and Northwest check in on the property assessment values released this week by BC Assessment,  the Province of British Columbia has been sharing some details on the Property Home Owner Grant that will be available for use when the civic tax bill arrives this summer.

For residents of the northern region  of the province the basic grant for 2023 is much the same as it was last year,  as much as 770 dollars.

For those who are 65 or older, veterans and those who have a disability   or live with a relative with a disability as much as 1,045 dollars.

The province observed on Tuesday that the Home Owner Grant will continue to cover 92 percent of residential properties in the province, with the threshold for 2023 set by the BC Government at $2.124 million.

As we get closer to May, the province recommends property owners check online towards their application status, as well they note of the BC Property Deferment program. a low interest program for homeowners who meet the criteria.

Learn more about  the Grant process and Deferment program from yesterday's announcement here, which features links to the resources that are available.

More notes on the Home Owners Grant program can be found as the City of Prince Rupert and other local governments roll out their Property tax program over the next few months.

In Prince Rupert our notes to that process can be reviewed here as the year moves forward.
