Race for CIHL Playoff rankings set to resume this weekend, with Rampage kicking off busy January with home date against Terrace

The Rampage are back at the Jim this Saturday as they
welcome the Terrace River Kings for a 7PM showdown

It's been a long, long time since the Prince Rupert Rampage last took a skate in competitive fashion at the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre. 

The Rhinos were the first of the CIHL teams to start off on their Holiday break period back in early December, that following a two game road trip into the Cariboo region.

They last came out of the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre gates on November 26th, so for Rampage fans it's been a few weeks now since they last had the chance to make some noise at the Madhouse on McBride.

So, start warming up your vocal chords  Rampage fans ... 

The roar returns this Saturday when Prince Rupert hosts their Northwest rivals from Terrace with a 7PM welcome to the 2023 part of the CIHL season.

Despite the long sabbatical from the ice, the Rampage, thanks to their remarkable start remain atop the CIHL West standings with 7 wins, 2 losses making for 14 points, just 1 behind the Williams Lake Stampeders who lead the league at 15 points.

The good news for the Rampage is when it comes to the games in hand, with the Rhinos holding and advantage when it comes to games played to date.

The River Kings will make for a strong challenge for the start of the New Year, they re nipping at the skates of the Rampage, just one point behind in the West and they will likely be bringing two players in the top ten scoring race when they arrive at the Jim on Saturday night.

A talented River King lineup includes, Colin Bell currently fourth in the scoring race heading into 2023 with 26 points, Ryan Roseboom holds down spot number 9 with 20 points, while Connor Onstein is percolating just below the top ten with 17 points.

The only Rampage in the top twelve is Judd People who is tied at the 12 spot with Onstein, the Prince Rupert offensive threat has seven goals and 10 assists for seventeen points, but has played fewer games so far.

This Saturday's return to action makes for the first of four home games to come through to the end of the season on February 4th when Smithers come to town. 

The Rampage also have there road games to come with treks ahead to Hazelton, Terrace and Kitimat.

Up for grabs in this last month of the CIHL season is playoff positions, with hopes of hosting hockey action through until the end of the final round of the CIHL championship.


This Saturday's match up is the first of three home games in January where Prince Rupert Hockey fans are being invited to join in on the Fight against Cancer.
