City Council Preview: Monday March 20, 2023

The final Regular council session schedule for March takes place this evening, the work had for the Council members one of a rather light agenda.

The Regular Session 

Tonight's Regular Council session starts at 7 PM and can be viewed by way of the Live Feed from the City Website, or on Cable Television from CityWest Cable channel 10/310.

The session is normally posted to the City's YouTube archive within 24 hours of the session concluding.

There are only a few items of business ahead for the City Council members, two Staff reports and the final reading for the City's Adjudication Bylaw.

The Session includes a presentation from the local Hospice Society, as well as opportunity for residents to raise any topic of concern to them for the council members.

Tonight's Council session also will provide the first opportunity for the Mayor and Council to comment on  Friday's 65 million dollar funding announcement by Premier David Eby, the money destined to be put towards the city's water infrastructure woes.

Tonight may offer a glimpse as to how the City will be putting that money to work and what kind of timeline residents of the city may anticipate moving forward.

Petitions and Delegations: Prince Rupert and District Hospice Society -- Presentation from Anne Falco and Susan Crowley

Public Comment Period  -- Those in attendance will be offered the opportunity to comment or make inquiries on any topic of note for them.

Adoption of Agenda and Past minutes -- The Mayor will review the minutes of the March 6th session and seek approval of Council  towards it. 

Public Comments regarding Agenda items -- New to the Council procedures, this period offers a chance for those in attendance to speak to any items to be addressed on the Agenda for the evening.

Council minutes -- Council will review and adopt the minutes of the March 6th session.

Staff Reports

Report from the Manager of Communications, Engagement and Social Development re: Support for Development Accessibility Committee -- Council will hear a recommendation to direct staff to establish an Accessibility Committee and to advertise for membership to establish a committee of seven people. 

Report from The Corporate Administrator -- DVP 23-101  -- Recommendation that Council proceed to the statutory notification process for Development Variance Permit #23-01  


City of Prince Rupert  Adjudication Bylaw -- No. 3497, 2023 -- Council will give fourth and final reading to the City of Prince Rupert Adjudication Bylaw. 

Business Arising

Council Round Table and Public Question Period -- Council members will have opportunity to raise items of interest or concern for consideration.

Adjournment -- The Mayor will bring the session to a close with a call to adjourn
