While there's business to attend to later this week for the Premier one of the highlights of his latest visit to Prince Rupert comes Thursday at an NDP fundraising event at the Museum of Northern BC |
Premier David Eby will be making his way north this Thursday, with the focus for his latest travels to the North Coast both official and social, with the Premier set to hold discussions with local leaders and explore some of the local issues of note on the North Coast and in the Prince Rupert area.
The upcoming trip making for a return that has Mr. Eby continuing to put some significant attention on the Prince Rupert area, picking up from his last visit in the fall of 2022.
As we outlined on Friday, the tour of the region will also offer a chance for some local fundraising for the NDP, with money raised from the 150 dollar admission to Thursday's Dinner set to be used towards expenses at election time.
North Coast MLA Jennifer Rice provided a snapshot for the NCR as to what some of those expenses look like for candidates heading towards an election period.
Among the details that candidates have to take care of, include things such as office rental, utilities, signs, phone and internet service, political leaflets and travel requirements.
The money perhaps to be put away for a bit, with the province's voters not set to go to the polls until Saturday, October 19, 2024.
Unless of course the Premier finds cause to go to the polls early and if so, an announcement this week in Prince Rupert would be somewhat newsworthy and we would welcome the exclusive if so ...
As for the official part of the Premier's visit, no agenda or itinerary of visits has been outlined as to what he has planned, but it would seem likely that he will be spending some time with local officials around the region.

In his past visit of October, part of Mr. Eby's leadership campaign efforts, the theme was housing.
In that visit he learned more about some of the challenges in Prince Rupert when it comes to affordable housing.
The trip this week offering a chance for an update on what has improved, that with the opening of Crane's Crossing and what still needs to be done to provide for much needed affordable housing in the community.
His visit also comes following delivery of what has become a large shopping list of items of note coming from the North Coast in recent months.
Areas of interest from some of those interactions include: the City's concerns over infrastructure issues, as well as. towards Port related financial themes related to Tax Caps.
The desire for a larger access to revenue streams in the area, as well as ongoing concerns over Health Care and fears of losing more services to the larger footprint of the Mills Memorial Hospital make for just a few potential themes for a conversation.
So with lots to explore, some of those surely will make for some of the discussions and maybe even some further updates on progress towards local concerns.
We may have a better idea as to what was on the list of conversation topics and if any progress on local concerns has been found before he heads back to Victoria on Friday.

Is it that our politicians don't know how bad it is, or is it that they just don't care?
