Northern Health staffing levels in Prince Rupert of some note in recent flow of information

Services at PRRH are making for some discussion on
the Northern Health hosted social media stream this month

Concerns over some of the services offered at the Prince Rupert Regional Hospital have made for some revealing conversations through the Northern Health Social Media forum in place for North Coast residents to make use of.

Of the most recent concern, is an update of specialist services such as echocardiograms,  an area where the wait times apparently can last up to a year.

A time frame which would seem to be an area of concerning delay that is looking for some attention.

The Northern Health response to an enquiry to the topic doesn't seem to hold out much hope for any immediate relief to the situation.

The other topic of note is related to the recent higher patient volume impacting on the Emergency Department, which recently resulted in an advisory for the public in late February, which seemingly continued into March.

The notes from early March provided a snapshot of the impact of those higher volumes.

Right now Prince Rupert Regional Hospital is experiencing higher than usual patient volumes, and wait times in the emergency department may be longer than usual. This can also affect other services within the hospital as well.

Those observations provided for a comment on the forum, that called for local residents to contact the MLA to ensure that concerns are being heard by the Provincial Government.

The full discussion, available here,  is worth a review to gain a sense of some of the frustrations on health care being found in Prince Rupert at the moment.

The topic should be of some note for North Coast MLA Jennifer Rice, who was appointed in January by Premier David Eby as the Parliamentary Secretary for Rural Health

Who while now taking on the challenges of rural health from across the province, would seem to have some issues to work towards in her own constituency.

Both the Premier and MLA are in town today for an NDP fundraiser event later this evening, so if those in attendance are looking for some cocktail hour conversation starters  ... Health care would seem to be pretty topical theme to take up over appetizers.

More notes on Health care can be reviewed through our archive page.

A wider overview of the work of Ms. Rice and the developments at the Legislature can be reviewed here.
