Nass Valley RCMP provide more background to Gitlaxt’aamiks home robbery incident from Thursday afternoon


Mounties in the Nass Valley are still investigating into the details of an incident from Thursday that had residents of the community of Gitlaxt’aamiks (New Aiyansh), asked to stay in doors while the RCMP conducted a search for an armed man.  


In their information release towards the incident the Lisims-Nass Valley detachment provides a timeline and more notes on the incident.

On March 9, 2023, at 3:23 p.m., the Lisims-Nass Valley RCMP received a report of a robbery that had occurred at a residence in Gitlaxt’aamiks (New Aiyansh), B.C. 

The suspect reportedly forced himself into the home brandishing a handgun. 

The resident then fled through a window with preliminary information suggesting the suspect may have left the area in a blue Audi vehicle.

In further comments to the incident, Sergeant Louis-Philippe Gendron Fafard of the Lisims-Nass Valley RCMP

"While the investigation is in the early stages, there is some indication that this may have been a targeted incident. There is no information to suggest that there is any ongoing risk to the community. "

Residents of the Nass  are asked to report any suspicious activity, and anyone in the Valley or across the Northwest with any information about the robbery are asked to call the Lisims-Nass Valley RCMP at 250-633-2222.
