Metlakatla First Nation set for Treaty updates through January

Update: In a notice posted to the MFN Facebook page, it was announced that the sessions for Prince Rupert and Metlkaktal have been postponed until a later date.

Members of the Metlakatla First Nation will have four opportunities to hear of the latest developments in the ongoing treaty process, the community information sessions are planned for four communities from January 14th through to the 17th.

Residents of Metlakatla will receive the first update on January 14 at the Metlakatla Band Office from Noon to 3 PM.

Later that same day treaty negotiation officials will provide an update in Prince Rupert at Chances Meeting Hall on First Avenue West, the dinner event starts at 5:30 PM.

Metlakatla officials then take the updates on the road, with  Prince George presentation at the Coast Inn of the North on January 16 with the dinner meeting set for 5:30PM

Thursday January 17th finds the negotiation update moving on to Vancouver at the Hampton Inn, with dinner again starting at 5:30 PM

The Metlakatla First Nation is currently in Stage Four of the Six stage treaty process, the current discussions are working towards the development of an Agreement in Principle, which will lay the foundation for the Final Agreement negotiations.

Once the negotiating process delivers an Agreement in Principle members of the Metlakatla First Nation will be asked to vote on it before the process moves on to Stages Five and Six.
