Former Northwest Minor Hockey players look to make their mark in Juniors and beyond

Across British Columbia and beyond the province's borders, players from Minor hockey across the Northwest have taken to new teams, looking to carry on with their hockey careers after moving on from their feeder programs.

Some have lived in the Northwest for less time than others, some having been born here and moved on early in their years, while some have worked their way up from Atoms to midget before making the jump.

For Prince Rupert hockey fans there are three names to keep track of as the 2019-20 season moves into its second month, with Brett Fudger in Vernon, Reid Lindsay in Victoria and  Lyndon Drummond at Kerry Park all hitting the ice in Junior A or Junior B.

Towards following their success, we have created an archive page which will track their efforts on a regular basis, as well as offer up links to many other players from Terrace through to Vanderhoof who have joined the ranks of Junior hockey this season.

As well, we include Kitimat's Justin Almeida who signed with the Penguins last season and currently has been assigned to their AHL affiliate in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

In all, we have tracked down seventeen players to keep an eye and continue to scan the stats sheets for any others that may have slipped by us.

You can review those notes from the archive here.

As well as the focus on hockey, as we outlined last week, there is also a strong contingent of Prince Rupert Basketball players on the court this year as four former Rainmakers suit up in a number of locations.

Our list includes the two McChesney boys, Justin at UVic and Liam at Utah State, to Ben Rabel at Douglas College and Eric Lees at Camosun College.

As well, the VIU Mariner's Cheer/Dance team feature Prince Rupert's Emilie Strand in the lineup this year.

You can follow their work this season, as well as view the stats packages for a number of other Northwest athletes competing at University and College campuses around BC and beyond.

That archive can be found here.

Permanent links for both are also available as part of our right hand column features, listed under Sports and Outdoor Activities.

If you know of a regional player we may have missed, drop us a line at Northcoastreviewpr@yahoo.ca or through our twitter feed, and we'll add the player to our listings.
