Stormy weather kept the Northern Expedition in port over the Thanksgiving weekend |
Thanksgiving travel plans were disrupted for those travelling between Prince Rupert and Haida Gwaii over the weekend, as a forecast for adverse weather across Hecate Strait over the last few days made for a a cancellation of BC Ferries sailings for Monday and Today.
As a result of the Pacific system that arrived early Monday, BC Ferries cancelled the Monday evening crossing to Haida Gwaii and the return trip to Prince Rupert that was to depart Skidegate at 10 AM today.
The weather remains unsettled in the region with a Storm warning in effect for Hecate Strait for the remainder of today, tonight and for Wednesday, with winds at time as high as 60 knots and seas as high as 7 metres. The weather conditions should subside to 25 knots by Wednesday evening.
BC Ferries advises that they will return to their regularly schedule sailings as soon as possible.
Travellers can find more information on the BCFerries website or call them at 1-888-223-3779
