British Columbia Government seeks public feedback on Discussion paper on Emergency Act upgrades
The province is looking to improve its Emergency Program legislation by improving on the processes in place to address more modern realities than when the exiting legislation came into effect in 1993.
Towards that upgrade, which will address such events as floods and wildfires, the new legislation will turn to the United Nations developed Sendai Framework towards implementation, Canada adopted that framework back in 2018.
The provincial government is also going put some focus on bringing First Nation communities into the management of such emergencies, incorporating the proposed changes as part of their commitment to Reconciliation.
As they look to move ahead with their work, the government has release a discussion paper taken from consultation through this year with a comment period now available until January 31st of 2020.
You can participate by reviewing the Discussion paper available here, and the emailing your feedback to the province at EmergencyProgramAct@gov.bc.ca
You can also use regular mail addressing your comments to

The projected timeline towards the revised Emergency Program Act will see work continue on the Act towards implementation in time for the 2021 flood and wildfire seasons.
