Tourism Prince Rupert to receive $100,000 towards Accessible Vendor Market

Tourism Prince Rupert will be gaining some significant funding
from the BC Government for a market plan

A share of some Tourism funding announced today by the Province of British Columbia will be making its way to Prince Rupert, with Tourism Prince Rupert set to receive 100,000 dollars towards an accessible vendor market to be located at the Port of Prince Rupert. 

With the description of the project,  one of the purchase and redevelopment of shipping containers  to create an accessible vendor market at the Port of Prince Rupert.

It's a concept that caught our eye and one we're looking forward to hearing more about. 

Towards that NCR has put in a request with Tourism Prince Rupert for some background on their plans and what kind of scope the project may have. 

So far, the local tourism group is keeping their plans under wraps; noting in a correspondence that today they will defer to the official provincial announcement.




As for the funding from today, the province through its Stronger BC economic recovery program has directed  a total of $13.6 million to British Columbia; six tourism regions, the money destined to be used to  create employment opportunities, attract new businesses and increase economic diversification within communities. 

The twelve  destination and tourism  infrastructure developments in Northern BC will see Tourism Northern BC working in partnership with a range of groups, communities and First Nations towards the new experiences

"Northern BC Tourism Association is excited for this tremendous opportunity to further develop the tourism sector in northern B.C. As a result of working closely with partners from across the region, we have identified key initiatives that will not only advance important actions and objectives from the region’s 10-year Destination Development plans, but will also significantly strengthen the visitor experience and enhance resident quality of life throughout northern B.C.,”  -- Clint Fraser, CEO, Northern BC Tourism Association.

Some of the work to take place includes improvement of trail systems throughout a region for hiking, Nordic skiing or mountain biking, self-guided tour signage to highlight agri-tourism areas and a series of Indigenous landmarks throughout a region. 

The Province has provided $2.3 million toward projects in the North including the Northwest, and on Haida Gwaii.

Update: Tourism Prince Rupert has expanded a bit on the funding, with a hint of more to come in the not too distant future.
