It's a full load on a reduced schedule for the Northern Adventure which serves a sthe only vessel serving the North Coast, Haida Gwaii and Port Hardy routes this month |
Boarding the only "in service" vessel for BC Ferries for this month, may now require a bit of finger crossing, with the Northern Adventure noting of a maintenance issue earlier this week, that had the ship a bit off its schedule for its service in and out of Prince Rupert.
In updates through Monday, BC Ferries outlined the nature of a pump issue which had the vessel holding in port, making for a delay in departure out of Skidegate.
In further updates on the situation that day, BC Ferries noted that crews were planning to make up for lost time and that no further delays were expected.
And so far, all seems well towards keeping to schedule, with no further updates or Service Notices issued since the late start to the Monday sailing day.
The Northern Adventure is the only vessel on the twin routes out of Fairview Terminal owing to some immediate maintenance required for the Northern Expedition last month, which took that vessel out of service in early June.
As a result, BC Ferries has been operating under its winter schedule through this period, which means reduced sailing opportunities to the communities served on the North Coast.
The most recent update on the status of the Northern Expedition is that It's not expected that the vessel will resume its duties until sometime in early August.
While travellers await its return, those with reservations or just looking to make a transit will be hoping that the maintenance issues don't ramp up as the Northern Adventure takes on the double duty required of it until the Northern Expedition return next month.
You can stay up to date on the status of the Northern Adventure through the BC Ferries Service Notices page.
