Sea Cadet program sails into fall with a number of activities

Prince Rupert's Sea Cadet Program has launched for 2022-23 with a busy few weeks of activities for the members of 7 Captain Cook Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps in the region.

To get the fall launch underway the cadets recently spent a weekend together enjoying local community activities. 

Among some of those avitives were a guided tour of the North Pacific Cannery National Historic Site, a hike of the Butze Rapids trail and a memorable day kayaking at Kloiya Bay with the guides from Skeena Kayaking.

looking for new members and adult volunteers for 2022-23

In a background note for the program launch for the fall it was noted that the cadets were asked why they joined cadets and what they like most:

Towards some of the replies: they joined because of their friends, the experiences it offers, and family who got them interested. What they like most is drill, weekend trips and training, marksmanship and the uniform. 

The Sea Cadets are seeking out more opportunities to get on the water this year and have plans to resume sailing in the Spring

The program in the Prince Rupert area has resumed weekly training at Chatham Hall, 2333 Seal Cove Rd, on Thursday evenings from 7-9 pm.  The local contingent currently has just over 10 cadets and is looking to continue growing their numbers! 

They note how the Cadet Program is open to all Canadian youth from the ages of 12 to 18 regardless of income, race, religion, culture or other socio-economic factors. The program embraces Canada’s multiculturalism and offers young Canadian’s opportunities to interact with youth from other cultures

There are also some additional benefits of participation in the program.
 
During the summer the senior cadets can attend summer training at locations across the country and locally for junior cadets Cadets can receive High School credits for completing their training.

Towards their recruiting drive,  the corps eagerly welcomes new cadets who are between the ages of 12 and 18. Parents and guardians can start an application to join 7 Captain Cook Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps  through this link
