Survey and Open House opportunities come with release of North Coast Regional District Draft Plan for Solid Waste Management

North Coast Regional District has completed their Draft Plan on how they plan to address Solid Waste management for the next decade, the document one which provides a foundation for managing refuse and recyclables for the next five to ten years with the primary goal to reduce the amount of municipal solid waste disposed at our landfills.

The Draft Plan (which you can review here) was received at the September Board meeting, the key elements of the program are listed below as part of the Summary for the wide ranging document.

Towards moving forward to putting the plan in motion, they have launched a consultation process this fall to hear from the public in the Prince Rupert area and on Haida Gwaii.

In Prince Rupert they are hosting an Open House on Friday October 28th from 3-6 PM at Prince Rupert Library on 6th Avenue West.

There will also be a virtual session for those that miss the in person events, with that to take place November 2nd from 6 to 8PM

Topics up for discussion at the Open Houses include themes on Recycling, Curbside Collection, Waste reduction, Efficiency and Improvement, User Satisfaction and the cost of the programs.

The consultation process also includes a survey which residents can fill out here,  consisting of eleven questions related to the Solid Waste Management Plan along with areas for feedback on other elements of how to address the issues in the region.

More background on the Plan can be reviewed here, along with the Regional District StoryBoard of the initiative which is available here.
