Senior Boys Rainmakers retain top spot in AA Ball in BC; get added exposure in Varsity Letters

The Charles Hays Senior Boys Rainmakers are starting off February in a familiar spot, with yet another First place listing in the BC Basketball AA Rankings, their hold on the top spot secured with some stellar play over the recent weekend at the Vancouver College Emerald Tourney.

As we recounted earlier this week, the Rainmakers knocked off some well known teams on their way to the Saturday final where they gave the AAAA level Terry Fox squad all they could handle coming close to toppling the high profile Vancouver area team.

From their weekend play,  the Makers get a shout out for their success against both AAAA and AAA competition from the Varsity Letters blog, which outlines the top ten listings here.

The work ethic of the Rainmakers has caught the eye of well known Vancouver sports observer Howard Tsumura, the former Vancouver Province reporter has been watching high school and university sports for years and in a post this week to his online journal Varsity Letters he puts the focus on the Charles Hays program.

The lengthy read provides one of the best looks at the Rainmakers in years and should add to the interest that is growing about the calibre of basketball in Northern BC.,

Among some of the themes it explores, is the team chemistry that has been built by coaches Ryan and Mel Bishop, as well as the buzz that the team is creating in the ultra-competitive Lower Mainland Basketball scene.

You can review Tsumura's feature piece here.

Hoops fans in Prince Rupert can take in some of the work of the Rainmakers this weekend as  Duchess Park comes to town, making the trek in from Prince George for two nights of ball against the CHSS Seniors tonight and tomorrow.

The Trojans are currently ranked at 7th in the BC AA listings.

Also in action tonight and tomorrow will be the Junior Boys Rainmakers who also match up with the Juniors from DP Todd.

As we outlined on Thursday,  the Charles Hays Juniors just moved into the Top Ten listings marking the number ten spot as they begin the February push towards Zones and a potential berth in Provincials.

You can follow the latest notes from the Rainmakers through their twitter feed.
