When it comes to travelling along Northwest highways it's not just the road conditions that have limited visibility

Only half of the Highway cameras listed between Terrace and Prince Rupert
stretch of highway 16 are currently working

The first weekend of travel in the Northwest was a snow filled affair, with over 60 cm of snow falling in the Terrace/Kitimat region and highway warnings being issued through the Friday/Saturday period.

For those who like to get a glimpse of what may be ahead of them however, for the most part it was a weekend of frustration with a large number of the Ministry of Transportation highway cameras off line, whether as part of a long term problem, or more recent storm related issues.

The last image you will see from the Ministry cameras comes at Kwinitsa, with the Kasiks camera and the two placed in the Terrace are currently out of order as is the camera half way between Terrace and Kitimat which went out of commission during the worst of the Snow event of the weekend.

The Terrace cameras are noted as unavailable due to construction, though perhaps relocating them temporarily might be something worth considering, particularly as the winter months move forward.

There is no indication on the Drive BC website or the Ministry of Transportation information portals as to when the repairs will be in place to bring all the cameras back on line.

Considering that we're at the start of the winter driving season for the most part and that at least three more months of at times challenging conditions await us through until Spring, travellers across the Northwest will no doubt be hoping that their elected officials both provincial and municipal put some heat on the Ministry to have all the cameras back in operation for future snow events.
