BYOB days for Canada Safeway customers, as national retailer shifts away from plastic bag use

There's a slight change to your shopping routine at the
Prince Rupert Canada Safeway which now no longer uses
plastic shopping bags

For those who may only do their shopping on Fridays or Saturdays, your next trip to Canada Safeway will be one where you will wish to bring your own bag.

That as the national retailer goes plastic free at their stores, the new policy one which went into effect this most recent Wednesday.

The store does have a stock of reusable bags on hand for purchase should you forget to bring one with you and is making use of paper bags, though that option does poses some unique challenges when taking on Prince Rupert's somewhat rainy reputation.

The grocery chain announced the plan to shift away from plastic in April, making that part of their ongoing commitment to sustainability,  you can learn more about that here.

So far the initiative seems limited to Canada Safeway when it comes to reducing the plastic footprint and exploring goals for sustainability at the city's largest retail stops.
