City Council Preview for Monday, January 20, 2014


Prince Rupert City Council gathers for their second scheduled session of 2014 on Monday evening, a night that not only provides for a Regular Council session, but a Committee of the Whole meeting and  in what seems to be the norm now, the always mysterious Closed Session. the second of the year, which launches the Council Monday at 5 PM.

The notice on the Closed Session advises that topics pertaining to Watson Island will be up for discussion, as well as a review of personal information on an individual who holds or is being considered for a position with the municipality. None of which it appears is something that can be discussed in open sessions.

When Council is finished with its Closed Session business, council will then reconvene a 7 PM for their Regular public session, which this Monday provides for an opportunity for local residents to ask questions of council in the Committee of the Whole segment of the night's proceedings.

Once the questions from the Open Night at Council is wrapped up, Council members will take on the Agenda for their Regular session of the night, the items from which can be found here.

Council will review the minutes of past meetings and then receive any petitions and delegations, giving way to any unfinished business.

Reports and Recommendations are next.

The first being a Report from the Corporate Administrator regarding appointments to the Northwest Regional Hospital District and Skeena Queen Charlotte Regional District Appointments (Page 7 of the Agenda)

The next item on the list a Report from the Corporate Administrator Regarding North Central Local Government Resolutions and Convention information (Page 9 of the Agenda)

The final item from the Reports and Recommendations session will be a Report from the Deputy Corporate Administrator regarding lease arrangements between the City and the Regional Archives Society (See page 16 of the Agenda)

Requests and then Correspondences for Action are next on the Agenda for Monday.

They are followed by a review of the Bylaws of the evening, Where Council will be asked to Adopt a number of Bylaw amendments.

Water Regulation and Rates (Page 36 of Agenda)

Sewer Regulations and Rates (Page 40 of the Agenda)

Solid Waste Amendment (Page 43 of the Agenda)

Council will also give first, second and third Readings to the Recreation Commission Bylaw  (Page 45 of the Agenda)

Any additional items then will be discussed, followed by the City Manager's Report.

The evening wraps up with Reports, Questions and inquiries from Members of Council, as well as the Mayor's Report, which is then followed by adjournment.

Council next meets in Regular public session on February 11th.
