The RockFish Climbing Co-op is hosting their Annual General Meeting tonight at the Prince Rupert Racquet Centre |
The local group with some big ambitions for wall climbing in Prince Rupert are ready to share some of their plans tonight, as the Rockfish Climbing Co-op hosts its Annual General Meeting tonight at the Prince Rupert Racquet Centre.
The local collection of climbing enthusiasts have been putting together a plan to build the activity on the North Coast with the Prince Rupert Racquet Centre set to be the home for climbing in the city for the future.
In June, we made note of a presentation from Racquet Centre officials to City Council which provided an impressive glimpse into the Centre's future plans and made note as to how the Rockfish Climbing Co-op hoped to bring additional visitors to the Racquet Centre through a relocated Climbing Wall.
The Rockfish Climbing Co-op currently scales the climbing wall at the Russel Gamble Gymnasium and with some growing interest in the sport on the North Coast, the potential for an expanded climbing experience could be realized with a move to the Racquet Centre which shares the parking lot with the Prince Rupert Golf Club.
A longer term vision also would see the Rock Wall Climbing group currently making use of the Russell Gamble Gymnasium in the Civic Centre relocate to the Racquet Centre, where one of the old Racquetball Courts would be turned over for a dedicated Rock Wall space, designed to meet the requirements of those who participate in that activity.
The project would be one which attracts younger users of the facility and may give them though to take up some of the other activities taking place there.
Details on this evenings session can be found here.
