City Council to hear update on CN Rail Station revitalization project, plans to access further funding for initiative

Work continues on the inside in preparation for the
renovation of the CN Rail Station on the waterfront

Residents of Prince Rupert could see a bit of an update on the ongoing work towards redevelopment of the CN Rail Station project on the Prince Rupert Waterfront, with Paul Venditelli set to provide a report on a request for approval to seek further grant funding for the work.

The project which would include leasing space to the Wheelhouse Brewing company is still in its early development and is estimated to cost approximately 5.3 million dollars, with the detail cost estimates still in the final development phase by Boni Maddison architects.

The report from the Manager of Transportation and Economic Development notes of the current level of funding through use of the Northern Capital and Planning Grant, with Council to be asked to approve a request to seek out an additional 300,000 dollars from the Northern Development Initiative Trust Economic Infrastructure grant.

With the topic of the CN Station up for a review, tonight could offer opportunity for Council members to explore some of the questions that they may have received from the public related to the plans, offer up more background on the plans for the work, as well as to review what kind of a timeline that may be in place towards the redevelopment.

More notes on this evening's Council Session can be reviewed from our Council Preview.

A wider overview of some of the plans for the CN Station can be examined for our City 2030 Vision Plan Archive page here.
