Blog Watching: Week ending January 8, 2023


The holiday period at an end, we returned to our chronicles for Prince Rupert and the North Coast this week, with the value of properties across the province the focus for many, as our notes on the release of BC Assessment values topped the list of five by a very large margin.

Also catching attention from our readers this week, some changes to the Provincial regulations on recycling, that see more items now available for recycling, with fewer items to be directed to landfills across the province as a result.

One of the newest parks in the city is already set for an update, with local community organizers seeking out grant funding from a number of areas towards improvements to Odd Eidsvik Park on the city's west side.

Youth Soccer in Prince Rupert is close to sharing some big news, with plans towards moving into an indoor space at the CANFISCO warehouse but a few signatures away on a lease with the city towards the the plan coming for 2023 coming together.

And the province's much anticipated 10 dollar a day daycare program is finally making its way to Prince Rupert, with the BC Government announcing that Discovery Day Care had been selected to host the program in the city.

From the weeks review however, it was the value of property across the city that dominated the views for this first week of 2023.

West side of Prince Rupert dominates agains as House Assessments from BC Assessments in th email. Online option available now -- The annual roll out of assessments of properties in British Columbia delivered some familiar themes in Prince Rupert, with a large volume of high assessments found on the city's west side once again.  (posted January 3, 2023

Youth Soccer set to kick things up a notch in 2023,  with plans for indoor space coming to fruition --  The east side CANFISCO warehouse location may soon have a new tenant, as the Prince Rupert Youth Soccer Association prepares to sign onto a lease for some indoor space for 2023.   (posted January 6, 2023

Discovery Day Care in Prince Rupert among facilities to gain from Provincial !0 dollar a day child care funding --  The Province of BC's affordable 10 dollar a day daycare program has finally made its way to Prince Rupert, with Discovery Day Care adjacent to Charles Hays Secondary School the site selected for the program in the city.    (posted January 3, 2022
