Celebrations all around following Prince Rupert infrastructure funding

The massive 77.2 million dollar investment by the Federal Government into Prince Rupert's water infrastructure announced yesterday, has been the talk of the town and far beyond in the last 24 hours. 

Shortly after the Victoria ceremony announcing the funding award, word quickly spread, a large number of those involved ready to share the word after many months of high anticipation.

The roll call of celebratory social messaging began with the Federal Government

From that came the official notice from Prince Rupert City Hall

Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP Taylor Bachrach who raised the infrastructure challenges often in the House of Commons was on hand in Victoria for the announcement and was quick to share word with both a social media message and an official statement.

The Provincial Government's Minister of Municipal Affairs, Anne Kang also hailed the day's news.

Also making a few mentions through Thursday afternoon was North Coast MLA Jennifer Rice

Also on the guest list for the Thursday announcement was Prince Rupert Port Authority President and CEO Shaun Stevenson. The Port's advocacy for the city with the Federal government a key element of the push towards the success of the day.  

The likely scenario presented of how a failing city, means a failing port and a failed trade policy for Canada, probably of some assistance in moving the funding file forward.

Over at City Hall, Councillor Reid Skelton-Morven was the first council member to use his social media stream to share his enthusiasm for the announcement, the councillor sharing multiple posts through the day.

Also celebrating Thursday's announcement were Councillors Nick Adey and Teri Forster Carnegie

Former Mayor Lee Brain who led the civic infrastructure process over much of the last decade of challenging times also had a a short shout out for the day's news.

The remainder of the current Council members could weigh in over the next few days, but all of Council will have their opportunity to speak to the Federal funding at the next Prince Rupert City Council session set for March 11th.

A session which could see the Council membership quite enthusiastic towards the work ahead and the how the funding will secure the city's infrastructure future for the years ahead.
