Day 2 Barnburner for the Rainmakers at Provincials

It was just a case of a  bad bounce, an out of bounds call, or a shot that wouldn't find twine that was the difference for the Charles Hays Rainmakers quest for a first win at the Provincials on Thursday afternoon.

The Prince Rupert Senior Boys and the Seniors of Bishop Carney of Port Coquitlam put on quite the show at the Langley Events Centre, a back and forth contest that saw the lead change hands often.

The game one which required five minutes of overtime before the Lower mainland team could secure a win, that by just one point.

A spirited bounce back game for the Rainmakers from their opening day disappointment, saw a strong offensive push propel them through the first twenty minutes of Day Two action,  Tyson Bomben led the Makers offensive display making for 34 of the 74 Prince Rupert points on the day.

His was the highest offensive output for both teams in a highly entertaining matchup.

The Archbishop Carney squad at times struggled to control the Prince Rupert flow in the first half, the Rainmakers taking a 34 to 29 advantage into the third quarter.

That Third frame brought much of what the fist half had provided for, teams exchanging points with fast paced back and forth action up and down the court, the Makers holding off the charge from Carney for much of the ten minutes.

The Fourth quarter saw the Lower Mainland team readjust their attack with some success, overcoming the Rainmaker lead by the halfway point and putting some space between the two teams heading down the final stretch.

Foul shot challenges and some officials calls that didn't sit well on the Maker's side of the court part of the narrative of the final portion of the days action.

The final moments of play in regulation time brought a frantic push by the Charles Hays side, closing strong to tie the game up with seconds to spare, sending the two teams into an Overtime period tied at 64.

As it had been for forty minutes previous, there was no slowing down the push, though Carney was able to hold off the charge;  they were a team that would bend but not break, as the Maker's couldn't overcome the lead, falling short by just one point at the final buzzer.

Charles Hays returned to the court his morning with an early morning call for an 8:30 tip off, they take on Kootenay  River in Day Three play.

Thursday saw the other Northwest rep Nechako Valley drop an 82-59 decision to Southridge in 2A play
