Two days of planting season ahead for Sunken Gardens this weekend

Prince Rupert's urban getaway spot is in line for it's Spring planting this weekend
as the call goes out for Volunteers for the Sunken Gardens Planting Party

The annual North Coast ritual of replenishing the Sunken Gardens is once again upon us, with this weekend now set aside for the Planting Party, a two day festival of digging into the dirt and sprucing up one of the city's most visible and most visited of attractions.

The event takes place Saturday and Sunday from 10:30 AM to 3:00 PM at the Sunken Gardens located behind the Prince Rupert Court House.

No gardening experience is required and children are welcome to join in on the planting, though if you have gardening tools at home you are asked to bring them along to help with the weekend's work.

Snacks and Beverages are being provided and a number of prizes will be up for grabs for those that take some time out of their weekend to lend a hand.

Last year the Sunken Gardens benefited from a cash infusion thanks to the Prince Rupert Port Authority Community Fund, with 50,000 dollars put towards makeover for the quiet space in the heart of the city, new signage, electrical equipment and irrigation service was put in place as part of that investment in the community.

At the heart of the Sunken Gardens experience however is the care and attention that volunteers put into the urban oasis. The weekend planting party marks the highlight of that community ownership of the location, as amateur and professional green thumbs alike share their time to make the Sunken Gardens the scenic showcase that it has become.
