Tonight marks the final opportunity for the public to provide some counsel for their City Council as the last Budget Consultation session takes place as part of the evening's Committee of the Whole Session starting at 7PM.
The previous consultation of March 11th was a sparsely attended affair with only two contributions from the public offered as to what Rupertites think about the city's financial plans for the year ahead.
Up for discussion will be the blue print of the city's financial plan and other budget preparations that were outlined at the February 25th Council session by the City's Financial Office Corinne Bomben.,
As well, the evening provides for the final chance to weigh on the findings from the Select Committee on Council remuneration which delivered a range of recommendations at the same meeting in February.
The Budget Consultation is just one of a number of items up for discussion on the agenda for a fairly busy night ahead.
Included as part of the Agenda for the Committee of the Whole portion of the evening, Council will also hear three presentations:
The first will see Colleen Fitzpatrick and Des Nobels of the Prince Rupert Environmental Society outline a range of rail concerns that they have
Cay Hulsen from BC Emergency Health Services will provide an overview of Community Paramedicine in the region.
And Sarah Dantzer will outline the proposed activities for Sustainability Month in Prince Rupert which will take place through April.
The Public will also be able to make use of the Committee of the Whole Session to ask questions or offer comments to Council on any topic that they have concerns about.
Elements for the Regular Council session include reports on a proposed cannabis retail outlet for Third Avenue West, a range of development variance requests and a report on plans from Metlakatla to develop an industrial logistics park on the south side of Ridley Island.
Council will also hear of the plans for development of the old Neptune Inn site on Chamberlin Avenue.
As well, Council be asked to declare April Sustainability Month in Prince Rupert.
Prior to the Regular Council session of Monday evening Council members will also host a Special Closed Session planned for 5PM, the Council membership citing an element of the Community Charter for the closed session.
