Keep your shovels and Ice Melt at the ready ... Winter may not be done with us yet!

While many may have been thinking of spring this week, Environment Canada is going to banish those thoughts for a bit, posting a Special Weather Statement this morning alerting the North Coast and Haida Gwaii to the potential for a Snow Event tomorrow.

The warning posted at 4:42 this morning states:

A complex storm is set to arrive today.

A Pacific front will reach the North Coast this afternoon and become nearly stationary on a line from Prince Rupert to Sandspit tonight.

Heavy precipitation and strong winds will accompany this storm.

Current model guidance suggests that Haida Gwaii and Prince Rupert areas could receive significant snowfall on Friday, whereas to the south of the front, Terrace and Kitimat area are expected to see heavy rainfall. Stewart will also see a prolonged period of snowfall tonight through Saturday.

Snowfall and rainfall amounts for this event are still up in the air at the moment due to the uncertain position of the front. Weather alerts may be issued at a later time as forecast confidence increases.

Environment Canada is hedging their bets at the moment on the prospect of snow though it could be as much of 10cm should the cold air and the arriving front mix at just the right moment.

You can follow along as the pacific front makes its approach through the Environment Canada website which will have updates and a more firm estimate of what if any snow we receive through the day today and into Friday.
