The recent surge of COVID cases has seemingly reached into the home of the city's most vulnerable residents, with Northern Health issuing an advisory today of a potential exposure of COVID-19 at the North Coast Transition Society's Crane's Crossing homeless shelter.
The potential exposure at the facility located at Five Corners is said to be between February 22 to 24.
As part of the advisory Northern Health notes:
Public health officials are asking people who visited the shelter during this time period, to take extra care to self-monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 until March 10, 2021 (14 days from the last date of possible exposure).Public health contact tracing is underway and, where possible, NH is reaching out directly to individuals who have been exposed. If people remain healthy and do not develop symptoms, there is no need to self-isolate, and people can continue with their usual daily activities, and continue to follow all COVID safety measures, including: keeping a safe distance from others, staying close to home and avoiding gatherings, and wearing a mask in public indoor spaces.

If you have been identified as a COVID-19 case or close contact in association with this exposure, NH Public Health will contact you directly and provide further instruction.
The latest advisory comes in a week that saw Prince Rupert's weekly count of COVID cases jump to 73 in data released by the BC CDC.
