The two large Bulk Fuel Storage tanks located adjacent to the Fairview Container Terminal will soon be no more, that as the Prince Rupert Port Authority seeks out Bids for Demolition of the tanks located at the entranceway to the Truck Gates to the Terminal.
An RFP has been posted to the BC Bid website seeking out potential contractors for the work, which the Port would like to have substantially completed by November 30th
The key elements of the project include:
Locate all existing services, underground utilities, etc. that may be affected by performance of the work as required for demolition.
Decommission and remove existing services as required for demolition and dispose of demolition materials in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, rules, and general good practice.
Demolish existing construction and dispose of demolition materials in accordance with all laws, regulations, rules, and general good practice and the recommendations set out in the Hazardous Materials Survey attached to the Contract.
The Demolition includes the removal of the following (as specified in the Contract):
a) steel storage tanks including concrete foundations and all associated pipes, pumps, and other mechanical and electrical infrastructure;
b) existing concrete block auxiliary building and foundation, including all contents; existing concrete retention walls and footings (including fencing, stairs, services, etc. affixed to concrete);
c) existing geotextile fabrics and geomembranes.
Coordinate and chair regular project meetings to keep interested parties informed of Project status.
Coordinate work to ensure terminal operations and related activities are uninterrupted for the duration of the Project Record and distribute meeting minutes.
Final cleanup, smoothing out and grading of the site to provide surface drainage such that the area remains free of puddles.
The Contractor is responsible for identifying need for and acquisition of all permits and approvals required for demolition, storage, handling, transport and disposal of all materials.
Access to the existing pedestrian rail overpass and terminal security gate must be uninterrupted throughout the duration of the Project.
Vehicle traffic to and from the Fairview Container Terminal throughout must remain uninterrupted throughout the duration of the Project.

If you applied the same standard to the port that you do to the mayor/city... you would add: no word on the reasons why this work is taking place, or what the hopes are for the site once this project is complete. Also, no word on the impact this demolition will have on the already laughably-low municipal taxes paid by the port. Perhaps an update is in order from the powers that be.
