A proposed housing option for the community got a bit of extra recognition this week, that as one of the members of the design team for the Lax Kw'alaams Band's Prince Rupert housing plans received a national award.
This week also saw local residents offered a chance to review the Zoom session for April for the proposed development.
COVID themes were featured twice in our list of the five most read items of the week. That with the release of the latest stats on the pace of new cases of the coronavirus in Prince Rupert, as well as some confusion in the community over when to register for the second shot of the COVID vaccine in the region.
Some notes from the Prince Rupert RCMP captured some attention this week, as an account was released of a neighbourhood search following an incident in the city near Lax Keen school.
This week also offered up a suggestion that things are about to shift into a higher gear of activity towards the expansion of the Fairview Container Terminals, with word of a Virtual Job Fair for Lax Kw'alaams Band members.
However, by far, the most attention from the readers for the week once again was focused on the plans for a housing development off of 11th Avenue East.
Architect of the proposed Lax Kw'alaams Apartment complex on 11th name as a 2021 Architectural award winner -- The work of Michael Green Architects has gained some national recognition, with an award for the work of the firm gaining an award from the publication Canadian Architect. This week, his latest work in tandem with the Human Studio gained some extra exposure in Prince Rupert through the posting of the video of their Public Information session of April for the 11th Avenue East housing proposal. As Fairview expansion plans take shape, recruitment process gets underway for job opportunities -- An indication that work is soon to start on the Container Port expansion project came this week with the first job fair session towards future employment, this one directed towards members of the Lax Kw'alaams Band (posted May 6, 2021)
